How is this for perfect timing? In an interview released today with SEGA's Yosuke Okunari the producer of the upcoming XBLA Dreamcast ports, it was revealed that all hope is not lost for the SEGA Saturn's catalogue of classic games! This makes the possibility of the long overdue western NiGHTS port so much more likely.

From Nowgamer.com via Impress Watch

"Okunari : It's not that we're ignoring Saturn I think you can see this, considering that we ported Nights Into Dreams (PS2) and other titles. What we announced this time is a project where we will have consecutive releases of titles that were debuted on Dreamcast. Separate from this, we're of course thinking about ports of Saturn games. It's the same as how Sega Ages and Virtual Console were separate existences. It's not that we have no intention of porting Saturn titles, so please share your requests."

Of course a giant flaming fangirl like me is never happy with second-hand information so I approached Okunari-san directly myself with the request for NiGHTS to be ported for download directing him to our NiD15.com campaign website to show him demand for the title. I explained that although the PS2 version is nice it's not convenient for fans (especialy younger fans) to have to import things from Japan. And what do you know, within a few minutes he replied to me :) He acknowleges that the PS2 version never made it overseas BUT he states that he would be interested in challenging himself with a NiGHTS port if the chance came up. So hey, let's make that chance happen~ show your support for www.NiD15.com. There are a lot of great titles on the Saturn i grew up with from Burning Rangers to Panzer Dragoon, Guardian Heroes to Fighters Megamix. If all Saturn fans pull together we might actually see this happen. The hardware might not have sold insane amounts back in the day but the games were incredible. Get to it.

Taken from the lovely musical chaps over at OSV from a recent interview they had with Yuji Naka:

OSV: So, of all the game projects you’ve worked on, which game has the best soundtrack?

Yuji Naka: Of all the title’s I’ve been involved with, it would probably have to be NiGHTS into Dreams. That was the best one that I remember. Next would be Phantasy Star Universe or Phantasy Star Online. Anything that I made with the Sonic team… all of it was great.

Always brilliant to hear Naka-san still holds the game in high regards :)

NiD15 Campaign!

20 June;  Author: TRiPPY

NiGHTS into Dreams .Com's first real attempt at getting the original Saturn game ported to Xbox Live and Playstation Network is now underway. Join us in showing your appreciation for the game and doing all you can to spread the word. Japanese gamers were treated to a NiGHTS into Dreams remake on the PS2 a few years back, so it's long overdue that us gamers elsewhere in the world get a chance to relive the nostalgia again whilst the new fans get to see what inspired Journey of Dreams.

Help us show how awesome NiGHTS into Dreams was (and still is!)

It's NiGHTS' 15th anniversary next year on the 5th of July – so add your vote for a fantastic game that deserves to be remembered.

Thanks to DiGi, Level 99, Kori and Charlie for helping with this video

Recent happenings

16 June;  Author: TRiPPY

Hi folks, TRiPPY here with a bit of an update on things that have been happening lately. Well first things first I had London MCM Expo to contend with and it went very well. Seeing my art up on a big video screen was epic, as was watching Bentley Jones do a live performance of 'So Much More' from Allstars Racing. Thanks to all the people involved with that and thanks to all the Sonic/SEGA community people I got to hang out with over the weekend. Great times were had.

Sexy times.

Now straight after that I had to unleash my art portfolio www.lynnetriplett.com in the hopes of getting a little bit of local work coming in. But within 24 hours I had a job interview in Sheffield and now I work for SUMO Digital. Yeah… it's not sunk in for me yet either. It's ironic that all this came about because of NiGHTS hahah. Let that be inspiring to you.

SUMO Digital are the wonderful, friendly and talented chaps who brought us Sonic and SEGA Allstars Racing amongst other great titles. The people who pushed to get NiGHTS into ASR for us. Now I work for them as a concept/2d artist. And you can bet your burning merch that I'm going to give them my 100% effort and loyalty since they done so much for our community. I know this might effect my ability to personaly report on any future (i wish) NiGHTS related leak things, but I'll make up for it by giving you guys my best work on-game. I'm not going anywhere from the NiGHTS fandom. If anything this might actually help us, lol.

Job gets!

So what else have I been up to lately? Well DiGi and I are very much on the campaign bandwagon and have a new NiGHTS related website to open next week. But you'll have to wait and see what that's all about. :)

Speaking of NiGHTS, Sonic Stadium recently interviewed Iizuka-san and someone popped a question about the possibility of new NiGHTS stuff. Go check out the full interview here:

Hope you guys enjoyed E3. I think Nintendo's lineup impressed me the most with love being shown to their classic IP's … and yes we all want to play with Microsoft's Kinect. Can't wait to get my hands on a 3DS either!

Later :D
